Drought and Famine in Kenya

There is a significant drought in Western Kenya. It doesn't seem that the Kenyan government is able to respond at the level needed. One of the churches we work with is in West Pokot which is affected by the drought. The economy in West Pokot is largely oriented around cattle. With the drought the grasses died and with the grasses the cattle shortly followed. This has left the people in dire need. There have been deaths in West Pokot due to the drought.

The link below is to an article in a Kenyan newspaper that speaks about Turkana, an area similarly affected.

Jacksonville Mennonite Church and East Africa

Jacksonville Mennonite Church has sister relationships with churches in East Africa. This is primarily through a Kenyan organization called Lightworld Mission.

In Kenya we work with small churches in Kakamega, Butere, Bungoma, Musanda, Shitari, Bukura, Nambale, Mumias, Kabiyet, San'galo, and Nairobi. There is no large mission infrastructure, rather we work directly with the local pastors and their people. The picture is of a church in San'galo, Kenya.

We also have relationships with churches in southern Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania.
